Hogmanay Party

I enjoyed my first Hogmanay party tonight and it was so much fun! You may be wondering what Hogmanay is, well I did too. I was just told "that's what they call New Years here." But that wasn't enough for me, so I turned to my good friend google to find out.

I found out that Hogmanay is the Scottish word for the last day of the year, so it's what they call New Year's EVE here.

And at this Hogmanay party was Caley dancing (Scottish country dancing, don't know if it's a general term or specific dance but I heard it both ways tonight) - which is a blast! (Think Jane Austen's dances mixed with some do-si-do scottish style... yes? no? maybe that helps?)

I enjoyed watching and participating. Trust me, watching is just as much fun - like when a friend of your's uses his daughter's head (she's 5 or 6 - she's young) to direct her during the dance... it was pretty funny, maybe you had to be there because I don't think I'm doing justice describing this.... :-)

Sorry, no pictures of me dancing but you do get a lovely self-portrait after the party, which is also my first self portrait of 2011.

(Laura, if you were here with me then there would have been pictures of me dancing. It's hard to commemorate oneself participating in these activities without you!)

PS - yes I did kind of dye my hair... the purple on the bottom has almost all washed out (sad!) but I didn't want to dye my hair until it was completely out (didn't know what would happen color wise.) About a month ago I bought the dye (I went a shade lighter than my natural color since the top was SO blonde). Unfortunately though, there hasn't been a change in the purple but there was major rootage going on and it was bugging me. After talking to my mom on Christmas and having her laugh at my roots I figured I needed to go for it. I only did the top part and it was a good thing too because it took the whole bottle! I forgot I have a lot of hair and it's getting long. Oh.... this is a long PS, long story short - aye, I dyed my hair.

PPS - Aye is said here a lot, like all the time. Look at me use the lingo!

Haha! Who told you Hogmanay was New Years Day?!

We went to a Ceidleidh(kay-lee) wedding reception for the Stake President's son and it was a blast. Everyone wore their kilts, and the music and dancing were great! Glad you had fun!

You'll have to go to a salon, or professional to work out the purple and to correct your color. If you need a recommendation let me know!

Haha, you told me that's what they call new year's here. I never said new years day in my post :-)

Thanks for the offer but I'm just going to let the dye grow out. I like the color the top is and besides my hair has never forgiven me for the dye job before moving. So I don't want to do too much to it right now. Well, at least until it likes me again :-)

Using a childs head as a remote control, shocking... but it was funny. I didn't think any one would notice seeing as it was so busy. Guess I'm busted. :)

Glad you enjoyed the party.
