Photography Challenge: 26 Self Portraits in 26 days

"Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world." ~ Lucille Ball

February is the month of love and isn't it important to love and accept yourself? Which is why Laura and I developed the “26 self portraits in 26 days” challenge.

Rules: The 26 self-portraits need to be taken in February. Anything goes. Now be creative! (You know you want to do it!)

I was watching

Ghost Hunters International when I saw two, read it, TWO commercials that made me happy. Oh so happy! LalalalalaLAAAAAAAAAAA~

Maybe I'll need to take a picture of these commercials for the "Joy" assignment for the photography group.

Commercial #1 -

Push is rated PG-13 and opens February 6th! I'm SO going to this, I've already penciled it on my calendar. Does anyone else want to come with me? I'd love not to go by myself. :-)

Commercial #2 -

I saw a commercial for Moonlight on SciFi! I'm so excited that it'll be back on TV. Except I'd be even happier if they're new episodes instead of just reruns. I SO hope there will be new episodes!

Update

If anyone is wondering why we're doing a sugar fast for 2 weeks, it's just to say we did it. And we're testing how we feel after two weeks. But I must say the third day seemed the worse, but it got better by the fourth and today nothing. So that's good to know for any future endeavors.

On another note I'm very bummed... my digital camera is dead because my battery charger is with all of our stuff....

...which we STILL don't have it back!! We were told 2 weeks! 2 weeks!!! The 2 week mark was Tuesday! It has come and gone and still no stuff! And if you even think I may not know for sure what day marked the two weeks, I know because I checked to make sure we'd have our TVs back in time for Burn Notice which started tonight. You also may think it's no big deal but it is! It's MY stuff!!!! And to top it off I'm missing clothes too - both my black skirts and my LBL hoodie are nowhere to be found!!! Nowhere!

< / rant >

Well I hope everyone has a great night. :-) And I'm sure the whole 'no sugar' thing is not effecting me what-so-ever.

Only day 2

of my two week sugar fast and I'm already craving it bad. I wonder if this is how a junkie feels.... hmmm.

Fish Lens Camera - experiment 2

While I was out experimenting with my Holga (which I love so!) I was also experimenting with my fish lens camera again, but this time I was able to use natural light.
Bush Park
I didn't know Salem had a wildlife refuge!
And the verdict is....
Natural light, close up, and angles are the key to make this camera magical!

Me & Holga - new BFFs

You may be wondering, "Who is Holga?" Why let me tell you!

"the holga is anti-technology! it produces images with soul; images strikingly different to the sterile, pin-sharp, perfectly-exposed digital shots that we seem to be suffocated with these days" ~jonee

"i love how people don't care too much about what you're photographing - when your camera looks like you stole it off your little sister." ~goon

"the way people look at you when you're shooting with a taped up plastic toy" ~brianmilo

Yes that is my Holga. I've only done one experimental photo trip with it but I've had fun and can't wait to do more!

I went out with Laura (view her photos here) today and for your viewing pleasure - the fruits of my experiment:

These are my favorite shots of the experiment!

Fun with glow sticks!

Tripods + manual settings (a.k.a. slower shutter speeds) + glow sticks = MUCH fun!
This was so much fun!

Experimented with flashlights

I'm performing the snake arms from belly dancing

S for Stephanie!

Self portrait. Rock on!!!

I experimented with my sister and you can find her photos here on her blog.

The best sight EVER

For the last two weeks all of my clothes have been at the cleaners, except for the clothes that were in the washer and dryer when we had the fire. So needless to say, I'm ready to burn the one pair of dress pants and the five shirts that I've worn for the last two weeks. And I've really missed my batman hoodie! I came home to the best sight EVER.....
Do you hear that? That's the sound of angels singing... "Hallelujah! Hallelujah!"

Fishlens Camera

I bought a fishlens camera and I've been having fun taking all different types of pictures. But it's old skool which means 35 mm... I don't know how the pictures turn out until they get developed.

I'm currently wasting my roll of film just so I can see how the pictures turn out.

There are two things that I found amusing in the instructions.

1. Before shooting remove the lens cap. (Really? Someone needs to be told that?)

2. Don't worry about the viewfinder because it's useless (really? then why did you bother to put it on there?)

The lens is so wide that it interferes with the view finder. I can't wait to see these pictures!

I took Laird's picture and then he asks me, "Can I see it?" After I told him that we can't see it he looked at me like I was dumb...

Memory Lane deux

Memories of the Great Saiyaman crack me up! Emi was awesome and memorized the rap that he did in the shows. And the funniest thing is she didn't mind rapping in public. I cried from laughing so hard back then and I still cry from laughing hard today.

After NDK 2003 (Denver, CO) we stopped off at Tychou & Emi's house to rest since their parent's were about the half way mark. Their little sister went to school late and we thought it would be funny if the Great Saiyaman took her to school. The teacher didn't find it nearly as funny as we did.

We were able to meet with Vic Mignogna who at that time was a new voice actor and did the voice of Gawl from Generator Gawl (LOVE that show!) but he is even more popular now at conventions since he voiced Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist (another show that I love!)

Ah memories, that was a good convention year; that was the year we met Ryuhou. He's another story all on his own....

Down memory lane

Back in Spring 2004 my friends and I were traveling to Seattle for Sakuracon.

Salem was a stopping point for us and while we were here I decided to pick my nephews up from school.... dressed as Yugi from Yu-Gi-Oh.

Here is Kaiba and Yugi waiting patiently outside the school.

Here's the reception we got....

While we waited I had the following conversation with a kid:

Child: "Is that your hair?"
Me: "No, it's a wig."
Child: "How did you do that?"
Me: "I believed in the heart of the wig."

What did the nephews think of this?

Larry J said, and I quote, "Mom, Stephanie had the look, but she didn't have the voice."

Well, what can you say to that?

I went through all this trouble

to make an animated gif for my new countdown (see side panel) only to discover that it won't do animated gifs, it'll only show the first frame! Curse you!

So, since I made it I'm posting it somewhere, and guess where that gets to be? That's right give yourself a prize - it's here. Just the thought of this movie fills me with joy and makes me all giddy!

Edit: But since animated gifs don't work on blogger either I threw together a quick page because dang it I'm going to use this animated gif!!! *waves fist* So please be kind and view my gif here...

They're MAGICALLY delicious!

And they magically clean you out... but it's so worth it!!!

02 January 2009

I smell a new countdown!

For when Gambit will finally be in a movie!!

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE HD

Oh this looks amazing!!!!!!!!

yay engrish!

Engrish shirts crack me up, the following is a perfect example, and sometimes they confuse me.

So that has me thinking, you know the shirts or sweatshirts in stores that have Chinese or Japanese characters on them? So, are they just jibberish or if they are actual words, is it's the wrong meaning?

Makes you wonder, doesn't it? (picture is courtesy of engrish.com)

On another note, Steve and I have discovered tonight that "Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl" is like a train wreck. We don't want to watch it because it's rather stupid, but at the same time we can't look away.

Memories...

Several years ago we had a family trip to Seattle and after visiting Pike's Market we stopped by Seattle's Best Coffee and had an amazing peppermint hot chocolate.

I forgot all about this drink until Laura reminded me at Border's. It was late, cold, and Laura wanted the yummy drink.

We explained the drink to the lady and she made it for us (wasn't she awesome?!)

This is the best hot chocolate EVER!

I did it!!!

I turned in my Peace Corps application. All that is left are the letters of recommendation and then my app will be complete. I'm so excited!!!! :-)

*Gasp* I actually followed through on something....
